Senator Owen Henry (R-12) has expressed his support for Congressman Jeff Van Drew's legislation aimed at removing federal income taxes on Social Security payments.

"With the cost of living in New Jersey continuing to rise, especially for basic necessities, our seniors are feeling the pinch more than ever," wrote Sen. Henry. "Eliminating federal income taxes on Social Security benefits is a common-sense solution that would provide immediate relief to those who have worked hard their entire lives and now deserve to retire with dignity and peace of mind."

In his letter to Congressman Van Drew, Senator Henry commended the introduction of H.R. 9359, The Social Security Tax Freedom Act, emphasizing its importance.

"Many seniors in my district depend heavily on Social Security as their primary source of income, and the idea of taxing those received benefits adds an unnecessary financial strain that we simply cannot ignore," he stated.

Henry highlighted the rising cost of living in New Jersey and reiterated that eliminating these taxes would offer immediate relief to retirees. He described the proposal as fair and reasonable, addressing real challenges faced by retirees today.

"Every dollar counts for New Jerseyans living on fixed incomes and the double taxation of social security benefits amounts to nothing more than government-sanctioned theft," he added.

Senator Henry concluded by thanking Congressman Van Drew for his dedication to improving the lives of seniors.
