In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Board of Commissioners organized a walk to express solidarity with individuals affected by mental health issues. The event was coordinated in partnership with the Prosecutor’s Office, the Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force, the Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and the Camden County Municipal Alliance Program.
"Talking about mental health is still difficult for a lot of people. There is an element of shame or embarrassment attached with the topic, when there should not be," stated Commissioner Virginia Betteridge. "So, it is our goal that through events such as the Mental Health Walk, that we can raise awareness about breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and show people that help and resources are available."
In addition to this, Commissioner Betteridge presented a proclamation to Michele Kidd, founder of Nate's Story - a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating the stigma associated with grief, trauma, and mental health concerns.
