Senator Vince Polistina recently introduced a bill aimed at providing relief to motorists affected by road closures in New Jersey. The legislation, titled S-2780, is designed to suspend tolls for motorists who are diverted to the Atlantic City Expressway when U.S. Route 40 is closed.

"This bill would provide financial relief for motorists who must use the Atlantic City Expressway when U.S. Route 40 is closed," stated Sen. Polistina (R-2). He further explained, "By suspending toll collections east of the Garden State Parkway, motorists diverted by floods or closures can efficiently travel from Atlantic City to Pleasantville with ease and financial peace of mind."

If passed, S-2780 would mandate the South Jersey Transportation Authority to automatically halt toll collections on the Atlantic City Expressway whenever U.S. Route 40 is closed east of the Garden State Parkway. In a show of bipartisan support, Assemblyman Don Guardian and Assemblywoman Claire Swift have also introduced this legislation in the assembly.

For those interested in reviewing the full text of the bill, it is available online. Additionally, individuals can reach out to Sen. Polistina's office through Chris Sivel, SRO Deputy Director of Communications at [email protected] to discuss the details of the proposed legislation further.
