The New Jersey Senate has approved legislation sponsored by Senator Kristin Corrado that aims to assist veterans in reentering college after serving in the military. The bill, known as S-1445, mandates public universities to readmit undergraduate students who had to leave their studies due to military service without any changes to their academic standing.

Senator Corrado, speaking on the importance of the bill, stated, “All veterans in New Jersey deserve the opportunity to pursue their higher education goals.” She further emphasized, “This legislation will make sure that public colleges and universities have policies in place to provide special accommodations for veterans, and help our brave men and women in uniform transition back into civilian life more easily than ever before."

Under the provisions of the bill, students who withdrew from a New Jersey public institution because of their service in the uniformed services, including the Armed Forces, National Guard, or Reserve on active duty, will be readmitted with the same academic status they held before their withdrawal. Moreover, the process of readmission will not require any written request fees or additional applications.
