Legislation sponsored by Senator Kristin Corrado that would establish the New Jersey Veteran Gravesite Maintenance Grant Program in the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) was approved today by the Senate Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee.
“Veterans' cemeteries throughout New Jersey require continual maintenance and care,” said Corrado (R-40). "This legislation will allow nonprofit veterans’ organizations to help maintain the gravesites of our nation’s heroes so that their final resting place is a place of respect and dignity."
Corrado’s bill, S-1286, would create the grant program within the DMVA for qualified veterans’ organizations to maintain veteran gravesites across the state.
“Qualified veterans' organization” is defined as a nonprofit veterans' organization that is a section 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) tax exempt organization under the Internal Revenue Code, or a federally chartered Veterans' Service Organization.
