Senator Kristin Corrado (R-40), Senator Holly Schepisi (R-39), and Senator Jean Stanfield (R-8) expressed their condolences on the passing of former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. In a joint statement, they highlighted Justice O'Connor's groundbreaking achievements, stating, "Justice O’Connor’s legacy as a trailblazer will shine for eternity and we are saddened by the news of her passing. She broke barriers while serving as the nation’s first female Supreme Court Justice and was a deciding voice in many landmark decisions that shaped the freedoms we all enjoy today. As we mourn her loss, let us celebrate the generations of women she has and will continue to inspire."
Sandra Day O’Connor made history as a pioneer for women in various leadership roles. She was the first woman to hold the position of majority leader in Arizona’s State Senate in 1973. In 1981, she achieved another milestone by becoming the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court, having been nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Justice O’Connor's contributions were further recognized when she became the first woman to have a law school named after her in 2009 - the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University.
