Senator Jon Bramnick expressed his support for Senator Corrado's bill to combat the spread of AI deepfake pornography, which has been used to target innocent students in local schools. Bramnick stated, “AI deepfake pornography is being used to harass, ridicule, and embarrass innocent students in our local schools. I’m joining as a sponsor of Senator Corrado’s legislation to increase penalties for bad actors who engage in the disgusting proliferation of deepfake pornography.” He emphasized the need for bipartisan collaboration to address the issue of AI crimes effectively.
The decision to join Senator Corrado's bill, S-3703, came after an incident at Westfield High School where AI technology was used to exploit 30 female students. The proposed legislation aims to prohibit deepfake pornography and introduce both criminal and civil penalties for the unauthorized dissemination of such content.
According to the bill, sharing deepfake pornography without consent would constitute a third-degree crime. Furthermore, distributing, possessing, or storing deepfake pornography involving minors would result in charges equivalent to those associated with child pornography, ranging from first- to second-degree offenses based on the quantity of files discovered.
