Senator Kristin M. Corrado's bill aimed at making public transportation safer for people with disabilities has been signed into law by Governor Murphy. The legislation, sponsored by Corrado, is set to bring positive changes for individuals with disabilities who struggle with navigating the current public transit system in New Jersey.

Corrado expressed her satisfaction with the bill being signed into law, stating, “I’m glad the Governor signed this bill into law. These new requirements for our transportation agencies have the potential to change the lives of people with disabilities who have difficulty navigating our current public transit system.” She emphasized the importance of prioritizing the mobility needs of disabled individuals in the state, stressing that, “All New Jersey residents, especially those with disabilities, should feel safe and confident when using public transit in this state.”

The legislation, known as S-146, mandates that all contracts approved by the New Jersey Transportation Research Bureau must take into account the mobility needs of individuals with physical, sensory, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. By ensuring that these needs are considered during the early stages of planning transit projects, the new law aims to prioritize the safety and accessibility of public transportation for all residents of New Jersey.
