Senate Judiciary Committee member Michael Testa has called for an investigation into the Attorney General's Office's handling of a 2019 criminal prosecution. In a joint letter with the full Senate Republican Caucus to Senate President Nicholas Scutari, Testa emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth behind the allegations. Testa expressed, "When there are allegations of egregious behavior taking place within State offices the public deserves to know the truth. It would be a gross dereliction of duty to ignore these allegations."

Testa highlighted the need for transparency and accountability, stating, "It is time for the Senate to return to Trenton so the Judiciary Committee can do its job and provide oversight where it is clearly needed." He urged bipartisan cooperation, saying, "I hope that our Democratic colleagues join us in supporting this effort to answer the public's call to action."

The letter from Sen. Testa and the Senate Republican Caucus pointed out concerning events related to the New Jersey Office of Attorney General that came to light in the indictment of U.S. Senator Bob Menendez. Testa stressed the importance of investigating claims of corruption to enact legislative reforms for the state. He asserted, "We have a constitutional duty to investigate these events that took place within our public offices. New Jerseyans have a right to know whether our officials at the Attorney General's Office were compromised by the allegations against Senator Menendez."

The call for an investigation aims to protect the integrity of legal institutions and ensure accountability in government offices. Testa's initiative underscores the commitment to upholding transparency and addressing allegations of misconduct within the Attorney General's Office.
