Senator Doug Steinhardt has reached out to Governor Murphy, urging the reinstatement of transparent formula-based aid for municipalities in the upcoming fiscal year 2026 budget. This request follows the elimination of such aid from the fiscal year 2025 state budget.

In his communication with the governor, Senator Steinhardt highlighted the financial impact on municipalities within his legislative district due to a $150 million cut. He noted specific losses for several areas: “Bridgewater Township loses $615,553, Blairstown Township loses $305,736, and Phillipsburg loses $209,219.” According to Steinhardt, these reductions will affect municipal budgets currently being adopted by local governing bodies and could lead to property tax increases or service reductions if not addressed.
