The State Health Planning Board announced on Apr. 15 that it will hold a public hearing regarding the Certificate of Need application for the closure of Heights University Hospital, formerly known as Christ Hospital, in Jersey City.
The hearing is an opportunity for members of the public to provide input on the proposed hospital closure. This process is significant because it allows community members and stakeholders to share their concerns or support before any final decision is made by the New Jersey Department of Health.
Copies of the application are available at several locations including the Jersey City Public Library – Heights Branch, New Jersey State Library, and through a link provided by the New Jersey Department of Health. The board stated that comments during the hearing will be limited to two minutes per person. Written comments can also be submitted at the event or sent by email or mail no later than April 22, with specific instructions given for submission details.
Individuals interested in attending or speaking at the hearing are encouraged to register in advance using an online form, although registration is optional. The public hearing will take place on Wednesday, April 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at William L. Dickinson High School Auditorium in Jersey City. There is also a virtual option available via Teams and call-in information has been provided for those who wish to participate remotely.
According to information released about its operations, the New Jersey Department of Health employs more than 6,000 people and works toward ensuring all residents have access to quality health care while promoting healthy communities throughout New Jersey.
As this process moves forward, further updates may be provided following review of public comments and additional steps taken by state health officials.
