The NFIB state director has taken a firm stance against certain legislation currently being evaluated by the New Jersey Legislature in its ongoing session. Over the past seven weeks, State Director Kean voiced opposition in testimony before committees considering several bills.
On January 27th, Kean addressed the New Jersey Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee regarding bill A-4636. This bill proposes that businesses selling gift cards must display warnings about potential gift card fraud. Kean noted logistical challenges, stating, “Not every location has a conspicuous manner to post a notice as they are already inundated with requirements.” She also criticized the associated $1,000 civil penalty as excessively burdensome for small businesses.
Further, on February 20th, Kean spoke out against bill A-5022, which involves implementing a Mandated Heat-Related Injury Plan. Her testimony detailed concerns about the potential impacts on affected businesses.
Kean also provided her perspective against other proposed bills on March 3rd. She opposed S-3187, which introduces criminal penalties for violations of prevailing wage laws, and S-2963, known as the “New Jersey Private Contractor Registration Act.” Kean’s detailed remarks on these bills highlight ongoing apprehensions concerning their implications on businesses throughout New Jersey.
