On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners, alongside elected officials and local skateboarders, commenced the construction of a skate park in Cooper River Park. This new facility will enhance the Camden County Park System by introducing a fresh recreational option for visitors.
Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, who liaises with the Camden County Parks Department, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “This skate park has been a collaborative effort and has been crafted with the resident’s and local skateboarders’ input,” Nash stated. He added that the park would address a missing element in the county’s parks system and be heavily used by the community.
The project is estimated to cost approximately $900,000, funded through both county and state contributions. In July 2023, Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald provided $87,000 to support the skate park’s construction. Greenwald emphasized its significance: “Helping to fund this skate park is an investment in the future of both our youth and the community as a whole.”
Cherry Hill Mayor David Fleisher also commented on how this development would complement existing amenities at Cooper River Park. “We are pleased that the County remains committed to investing in parks, recreation facilities and open spaces,” Fleisher said.
Cooper River Park spans 346 acres across several townships including Pennsauken, Cherry Hill, Collingswood, and Haddon Township. It features various facilities such as pavilions, bike trails, sports fields, and more. Recognized as a Great Place in New Jersey by APA-NJ, it hosts significant events like the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta.
