In response to recent reports indicating a surge in anti-Semitic incidents across the nation, New Jersey State Senator Bob Singer (R-30) has made a statement urging the cessation of taxpayer funding to Princeton University. This call to action follows allegations of anti-Semitic activities during protests at the university.
Princeton University, among several institutions under federal investigation for antisemitism after last year’s pro-Palestinian demonstrations, is the focal point of Senator Singer’s concerns. Singer emphasized the university’s obligation to foster a “safe, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere for all students.” He criticized the inadequate response from the university’s leadership regarding the anti-Semitic protests, describing the situation as “deeply troubling.”
The financial contributions from taxpayer dollars to Princeton University are significant, with the institution having received $2,611,461 in FY 2024 and $3,309,313 thus far in FY 2025. In light of this, Senator Singer has announced, “Starting today, I am calling for an immediate halt to all taxpayer funding to Princeton University until they demonstrate concrete steps to address and eliminate anti-Jewish bias on their campus.”
Singer is not stopping at taxpayer funding alone; he is also appealing to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to suspend state funding to the university. Describing his initiative as exceeding political affiliations, Singer has declared, “This is not a partisan issue—this is a moral imperative.”
