Senator Robert Singer has introduced a bill aimed at protecting homeowners from property fraud. The proposed legislation would require county recording officers to set up a property alert service that notifies homeowners when documents affecting their property, such as deeds or liens, are recorded.

“There are too many instances where bad actors take a fraudulent lien against a property and the homeowner doesn’t find out until it is too late,” said Sen. Singer. “Establishing this simple safeguard would give homeowners an early warning to spot and stop fraud before it causes serious financial harm.”

A draft of the bill is available for public review online.
