In light of Governor Murphy’s recent Executive Actions to tackle the rising electricity prices in New Jersey, Senators Joe Pennacchio and Latham Tiver have voiced their concerns. The senators released a statement criticizing the governor’s measures as insufficient and overdue.

“As energy prices continue to climb, New Jerseyans are being squeezed harder than ever,” stated the senators. They argue that the current policies are at the core of escalating energy bills and propose their own legislative solution for immediate relief. Their legislation, S-4398, aims to suspend both the sales and use tax and the Societal Benefits Charge on electric bills.

Pennacchio and Tiver assert that these charges contribute significantly to making energy unaffordable for families and small businesses. “The truth is energy is unaffordable because of the policies pushed by the very same people, like Governor Murphy and fellow Trenton Democrats, who are now pretending to fix the problem,” they said. The senators call for decisive action rather than what they describe as “political gimmicks” to alleviate rising energy costs.
