Senator Jim Holzapfel said on June 2 that recent unrest at Delaney Hall was a consequence of political rhetoric and policy decisions by Governor Sherrill and other Democratic leaders. Holzapfel said, “Governor Sherrill helped create the environment that led to the chaos at Delaney Hall. For months, she and other Democratic leaders used inflammatory rhetoric that undermined confidence in federal law enforcement and escalated tensions surrounding immigration enforcement. By creating a portal that encouraged citizens to track and report ICE activity and supporting policies that further siloed law enforcement agencies, her administration helped pit citizens against the very officers tasked with keeping our communities safe.”

Holzapfel also addressed Governor Sherrill’s response to the situation, saying, “However, I appreciate Governor Sherrill’s decision to work with the Trump Administration and deploy the New Jersey State Police to restore order and protect the public. This situation should serve as a reminder that political rhetoric and public policy have real-world consequences.”

According to the official website of Senator Anthony M. Bucco, he serves as Senate Republican Leader for New Jersey’s 25th Legislative District, chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, serves on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, provides constituent services through his district office and email for legislative inquiries, and engages in sponsoring bills and committee discussions on state issues.
