Senator Declan O’Scanlon has called for the resignation of Tiffany Williams Brewer, the chief executive officer of the State Commission of Investigation (SCI). This comes after a report by Asbury Park Press revealed that Brewer resides in Maryland and holds a second full-time job in Washington, D.C.
O’Scanlon stated, “The revelations surrounding Tiffany Williams Brewer’s conflicting out-of-state commitments and dubious/conflicting residency claims are an insult to New Jersey taxpayers and warrant her immediate resignation from SCI.” He emphasized that leading an agency tasked with combating corruption in New Jersey requires residing in the state and maintaining a regular presence at work. O’Scanlon criticized Brewer for managing her role at SCI while living in Maryland and teaching in Washington, D.C., which he claimed limits her availability in New Jersey to one or two days per week.
He further noted that Brewer’s salary increased from $175,000 to $210,000 as of January 1st. Her predecessor reportedly earned less but was more present at the office than Brewer intends to be. O’Scanlon also highlighted concerns about Brewer’s primary residence being listed as Maryland while she allegedly voted in New Jersey during the November election. He questioned how taxpayers could trust someone involved in such conflicts to lead an agency dedicated to protecting them from corruption.
“Her actions make a mockery of SCI’s mission,” O’Scanlon said, adding that her continued presence undermines its integrity as New Jersey’s leading investigative authority on waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars.
