Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco has issued a statement in response to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy’s visit to the sinkhole on Interstate 80. The visit underscores the collaborative efforts between state and federal agencies to address the issue.

Bucco expressed gratitude towards Secretary Duffy, the Federal Highway Administration, Governor Murphy, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) for their prompt actions. He emphasized the importance of this collaboration in reopening the critical roadway swiftly and safely.

“The collaboration between the State and Federal agencies is paramount for reopening this vital roadway as quickly and safely as possible,” said Bucco. He acknowledged that addressing the sinkhole has been a complex task but remains optimistic about its resolution.

Bucco added, “I am confident that—with continued coordination—crews will have all the resources necessary to reopen I-80 so New Jersey’s residents, commuters, and businesses can get back to their normal routines in no time.”

The focus remains on ensuring that Interstate 80 is reopened efficiently to minimize disruption for residents and businesses alike.
