Senator Jon Bramnick, a Republican representing New Jersey’s 21st District, has announced plans to introduce legislation aimed at holding large companies accountable for their mass communications with consumers.
“Consumers are constantly receiving text messages, phone calls, and emails from large companies, yet they struggle to reach a live person when they need answers. This leaves customers questioning whether these communications are even legitimate,” said Sen. Bramnick. “I recently experienced this firsthand, when my office had difficulty reaching a real person regarding a Communication company. To that end, I will be drafting legislation entitled the ‘Consumer Bill of Rights’ to hold large corporations accountable by requiring communications to be consumer-oriented, not company-oriented. While these corporations spend millions on advertising, many fail to provide the basic resources to respond to the very customers they rely on and that is simply unacceptable.”
Bramnick’s proposed “Consumer Bill of Rights” would require that corporate communications focus more on customer needs rather than solely serving company interests.
In related legislative work in New Jersey, State Senator Anthony M. Bucco serves as Senate Republican Leader and chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee while also sitting on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee according to his official website. Bucco represents communities such as Bernardsville Borough, Boonton Town and Denville Township.
Bucco participates in sponsoring and co-sponsoring legislation addressing key state issues and provides constituent services through his district office in Boonton as well as via email for legislative inquiries (source).
The announcement by Bramnick comes amid ongoing discussions among New Jersey lawmakers about improving accountability and responsiveness from major corporations toward consumers.
