The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced on March 25 that the Route 9 northbound outer roadway and the ramps to Route 440 and Riverside Drive in Woodbridge will be closed tonight for construction. The closure is scheduled from 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, until 6 a.m. Thursday, March 26, as part of a Garden State Parkway project in Middlesex County.

The closure is necessary for the installation of structural steel associated with ongoing work on the Garden State Parkway. During this period, all traffic will be directed to use the Route 9 inner roadway by staying left after crossing the Raritan River.

Detours have been set up for motorists who would normally use these ramps. Drivers wishing to access Route 440 northbound from Route 9 northbound should continue on the inner roadway, take the ramp to New Brunswick Avenue/CR616, turn left onto New Brunswick Avenue/CR616, then right onto Florida Grove Road before taking the ramp to Route 440 northbound.

For those seeking access to Route 440 southbound or Riverside Drive from Route 9 northbound, motorists are advised to continue on the inner roadway and follow signs for New Brunswick Avenue/CR616. From there they can take various turns leading either toward southbound ramps or directly onto Riverside Drive.

The Department encourages drivers to check real-time travel information and construction updates at www.511nj.org or follow NJDOT’s social media accounts for further news about road conditions.
