The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced on April 11 that the left lane of Route 42 northbound at Black Horse Pike/Route 168 in Gloucester Township, Camden County, will be closed beginning Monday night for guiderail replacement work.
The closure is expected to last approximately two weeks and is part of a $6.3 million federally funded contract aimed at replacing guiderails and attenuators at multiple locations across Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties. The project also includes the construction of a concrete sidewalk to improve pedestrian safety.
According to the announcement, starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 13 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, both the left and center lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed at Black Horse Pike/Route 168 so that barriers can be placed and the long-term left lane closure can begin. At least one lane will remain open overnight during this period.
By Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., the center lane will reopen while the left lane remains closed for about two weeks as crews replace median guiderails and construct sidewalks. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution in the work zone area, and expect delays.
The department noted that timing may change due to weather or other factors. Travelers are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website (www.511nj.org) for updates or follow NJDOT social media channels for real-time information.
