The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced on April 14 that Route 42 northbound will have a long-term left lane closure beginning Monday night in Gloucester Township, Camden County. The closure is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on April 13 and will last for approximately two weeks to allow for guiderail replacement and related repairs.

This project is important because it aims to improve safety by replacing the median guiderail, constructing a concrete median, and making concrete repairs along the route. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while traveling through the work zone.

According to the announcement, both the left and center lanes on Route 42 northbound at Black Horse Pike/Route 168 (mile post 9.8 to mile post 10.1) will be closed overnight starting Monday. By Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., the center lane will reopen while the left lane remains closed for ongoing construction work.

The work is part of a $6.3 million federally funded contract that covers guiderail and attenuator replacements at various locations across Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties.

Officials noted that timing may change due to weather or other factors. Drivers are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website (www.511nj.org) for updates on construction schedules and real-time travel information.
