The New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced that the interchange ramps between Route 4 eastbound and Farragut Drive in Teaneck, Bergen County will be closed for about four weeks starting Monday, March 9. The closures are needed to allow for ramp widening work.
According to officials, the affected ramps are scheduled to close at 6 a.m. on March 9 and remain closed until approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10. If construction is finished earlier than planned, the ramps may reopen sooner.
Detours have been established for motorists during this period. Drivers traveling on Route 4 eastbound who wish to reach Webster Avenue or Farragut Drive will need to continue on Route 4 eastbound, take the ramp toward Route 93/CR 501/Englewood/Grand Avenue, then follow Rockwood Place and Grand Avenue before accessing Decatur Avenue and Alfred Avenue back to Farragut Drive/Webster Avenue.
Motorists heading northbound on Farragut Drive seeking access to Route 4 eastbound should continue onto Webster Avenue, turn left onto Forest Avenue and then Teaneck Road before taking the ramp to Route 4 eastbound/New York/U Turn.
For those traveling southbound on Webster Avenue (which becomes Farragut Drive) aiming for the Route 4 eastbound ramp, detour instructions direct them along Glen Court, Columbus Drive, East Cedar Lane, and Teaneck Road before reaching the appropriate ramp.
This work is part of a $14.8 million federally funded project intended to resurface roughly 8.7 miles of Route 4 from Tunbridge Road in Fair Lawn to Route 9W/I-95 in Fort Lee. In addition to resurfacing, the project includes installation of ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities and other safety improvements within its limits. Construction is expected to conclude in Spring 2026.
The timeline for completion may shift due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Motorists are advised by officials to consult NJDOT’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org for updates and real-time travel information.
