The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will begin preliminary work on the Route 30 resurfacing project in Camden County next week. The project, which covers the stretch from Cooper Street to Grove Street, will start with sign installation and survey activities in several municipalities including Camden, Pennsauken, Collingswood, Oaklyn, Haddon Township, Audubon, and Haddon Heights.

Sign installation is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday starting March 2. This operation will move along Route 30 between 10th Street in Camden and Grove Street in Haddon Heights. NJDOT expects minimal impact on traffic during this phase. Survey work will also be conducted over the coming weeks along the roadway.

Motorists are advised to slow down and exercise caution while traveling through work zones. NJDOT stated that major construction activities are not expected until later in the spring and that advance notice will be provided before any lane closures or further construction begins.

This $49.6 million project aims to resurface approximately six miles of Route 30 in both directions, extending from near the Cooper Street on-ramp eastbound in Camden through Pennsauken, Collingswood, Oaklyn, Haddon Township, Audubon, and ending at Grove Street in Haddon Heights.

In addition to resurfacing the roadway, the project includes upgrades to 14 traffic signals as well as pedestrian push buttons and signal heads. It will also install ADA-compliant curb ramps, repair sidewalks and curbs where necessary, improve guiderails, and add underground Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) conduit and wiring. Bridge deck and joint repairs are planned where needed. A pedestrian separation barrier will be installed on bridges over the Cooper River at mile posts 1.79 and 3.61 to enhance safety for those crossing these structures.

Connectivity improvements are part of the plan as well; the project will provide access to a multi-use bike path that crosses North Park Drive and the bridge over the Cooper River.

For updates on construction progress or real-time travel information related to this project or others statewide, motorists can visit NJDOT’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org.

“Motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution in work zones,” NJDOT said in its announcement.
