The Route 3 eastbound ramp to Route 17 northbound in Rutherford, Bergen County, will be closed and detoured on Friday night for drainage work. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced that the closure will begin at 9 p.m. on October 24 and is expected to last until 10 a.m. on October 25. This closure is part of a $15.7 million contract aimed at improving stormwater systems across several counties, including Bergen.

The project involves replacing corrugated metal drainage pipes with reinforced concrete pipes and repairing inlets and curbs. If the work finishes ahead of schedule, the ramp may reopen earlier than planned.

Motorists traveling on Route 3 eastbound who wish to access Route 17 northbound will be directed to continue on Route 3 eastbound, take the exit for Route 120 north/East Rutherford/Sports Complex, keep right onto the North Service Road, then take the ramp onto Route 3 westbound before exiting for Route 17 northbound/Rutherford.

The timing of this work may change due to weather or other factors. NJDOT advises drivers to check their traffic information website at www.511nj.org for updates and real-time travel information. Updates are also available via NJDOT’s social media channels: X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT, Facebook, and Instagram @NewJersey.DOT.

“Safety is everyone’s responsibility,” said NJDOT Commissioner Fran O’Connor in a message about making roadway safety a priority.
