The New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced that the right lane and shoulder on Route 23 northbound will be closed on Monday, March 2, near the bridge over the Pequannock River in West Milford, Passaic County. The closure will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., approximately half a mile before Canistear Road. At least one lane will remain open during this period.
According to the department, these closures are necessary to install a construction barrier and establish a work zone in the right shoulder area. By 3 p.m., the right lane is expected to reopen, but the right shoulder will stay closed for about one month while culvert repairs are completed.
Officials advise motorists to reduce speed, use caution, and anticipate delays or consider alternate routes during this time. The maintenance project is funded by $8.7 million in state resources and aims to rehabilitate timber and underwater structures at several sites across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren counties.
Variable Message Signs will alert drivers about changes in traffic patterns related to this work. The schedule may change depending on weather or other factors.
