Route 22 in North Plainfield, Somerset County will have left lane closures in both directions starting Monday, March 2. The closures are scheduled to last until Saturday, March 14 at 5:30 a.m., according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). The affected area is between Malcolm Avenue and the Walmart Shopping Center.
At least one lane will remain open on Route 22 eastbound and westbound during this period. The closures are required for repairs to the median concrete barrier. NJDOT advises drivers to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while traveling through the work zone.
The maintenance project has a budget of $8.5 million funded by the state. It includes repairs to concrete structures at various locations across Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, and Warren counties.
Variable Message Signs will be used to notify motorists about changes in traffic patterns due to the construction work. NJDOT notes that the timing of the project may change depending on weather or other factors.
Motorists can check real-time travel information on NJDOT’s traffic website at www.511nj.org and follow updates on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
