The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced that the closure of the Douglas Avenue eastbound ramp, which connects Goffle Road/County Route 659 northbound to Route 208 southbound in Hawthorne, Passaic County, will be extended until Wednesday, December 10. The ramp was initially scheduled to reopen on Thursday, December 4.
According to NJDOT, the extension is required to complete the installation of a barrier curb aimed at improving safety in the area. This work is taking longer than planned due to inclement weather. The ramp is now expected to reopen at 7 a.m. on December 10.
A detour will remain in place for motorists during this period. Drivers on Goffle Road/CR 659 northbound who wish to access Route 208 southbound will need to continue on Goffle Road/CR 659 northbound, take the next ramp to Route 208 northbound, then use the ramp for Goffle Road/Hawthorne/Paterson. After passing under Route 208, drivers should make the first right turn onto the ramp leading to Route 208 southbound.
This project is part of a $12 million state-funded maintenance contract that includes infrastructure repairs at various locations across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union and Warren counties.
NJDOT stated: “The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.” The department encourages motorists to check its traffic information website at www.511nj.org for real-time travel updates and follow NJDOT’s social media channels for further news.
“Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Watch NJDOT Commissioner Fran O’Connor’s message about making roadway safety a way of life,” said NJDOT.
