The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced that the Route 17 southbound ramp to Route 3 eastbound in Rutherford, Bergen County, will be closed overnight starting Monday. The closure is required for concrete repairs to the bridge deck on the ramp over Route 17 northbound.

The closure will begin at 9 p.m. on Monday, February 23, and last until 6 a.m. Tuesday, February 24. If there is inclement weather, the work will be rescheduled for the following night.

During this period, motorists traveling on Route 17 southbound who wish to access Route 3 eastbound will follow a detour. Drivers will continue on Route 17 southbound as it becomes Rutherford Avenue, turn left onto Polito Avenue, then left onto Wall Street West, another left onto Garland Way, and finally turn right onto Route 17 northbound before taking the ramp to Route 3 east toward New York.

According to NJDOT, “The overnight closure is necessary to make concrete repairs to the bridge deck on the ramp over Route 17 northbound.”

This project is part of an $8.5 million federally funded maintenance contract that aims to make preventative repairs to 25 bridges and paint three bridges at various locations along Routes 3, 17, 120, and 495 in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties.

NJDOT noted that “the precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.” Motorists are advised to check NJDOT’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org for real-time updates.
