The New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced that the Route 17 southbound ramp to Route 3 eastbound in Rutherford, Bergen County will be closed overnight on Friday. The closure is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on March 6 and last until 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 7.
According to officials, the closure is necessary for concrete repairs to the bridge deck on the ramp over Route 17 northbound. This work continues a project that started in January.
A detour will be set up for drivers traveling southbound on Route 17 who wish to access Route 3 eastbound. Motorists will be directed to continue on Route 17 southbound, which becomes Rutherford Avenue, then turn left onto Polito Avenue, left onto Wall Street West, left onto Garland Way, and finally right onto Rutherford Avenue/Route 17 northbound before taking the ramp to Route 3 east toward New York.
The maintenance is part of an $8.5 million federally funded contract aimed at making preventative repairs to 25 bridges and painting three bridges across Routes 3, 17, 120, and 495 in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties.
Officials noted that “the precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.” They encourage motorists to check NJDOT’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org for real-time travel updates and follow NJDOT news on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT, Facebook, or Instagram @NewJersey.DOT.
