The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced on April 11 that the right lane of Route 120 northbound in East Rutherford will be closed during daytime hours starting next week for curb and sidewalk repairs.

The closure is expected to last for about three weeks, affecting drivers traveling through Bergen County. The project aims to improve pedestrian infrastructure and maintain roadway safety along this stretch of Route 120.

According to the announcement, the right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, April 13, and continuing until Friday, May 1. The affected area extends between the traffic signal near the Hampton Inn at mile post 1.4 and the jughandle near mile post 1.7. At least one lane will remain open throughout construction.

The department said these closures are necessary for curb and sidewalk repairs as part of a $7.5 million statewide maintenance contract. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution in work zones, and expect possible delays due to changing traffic patterns.

Variable Message Signs will notify drivers about upcoming changes related to this work. The schedule may change depending on weather or other unforeseen factors.

Drivers are encouraged by officials to check NJDOT’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org for updates on construction progress and real-time travel information.
