Route 120 in East Rutherford, Bergen County, will be closed and detoured in both directions starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 12, until 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 13. The closure is required for the installation of a new pedestrian bridge connecting the American Dream parking deck to MetLife Stadium.

According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), the North and South Connection Roads around American Dream and all exits from its parking lots will remain open during this period. Several NJ TRANSIT bus routes, including Routes 85, 355, 703, and 772, will also be detoured.

The new pedestrian bridge is being installed next to the existing one to increase capacity across Route 120 ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Specific detours are outlined for motorists:

– For those traveling from Route 3 eastbound service road/Sheraton Plaza Drive to Route 120 northbound: drivers should continue on Route 3 eastbound, cross the Hackensack River, exit onto Meadowlands Parkway north, then follow signs back toward Route 17 north/Rutherford and eventually access Route 120 south/Paterson Plank Road/Sports Complex.
– From Route 3 westbound to Route 120 northbound: drivers should continue on Route 3 westbound, exit onto Route 17 north/Rutherford, and proceed as above.
– For southbound travel: motorists on Washington Avenue/CR 503 wishing to take Route 120 southbound should turn right onto Paterson Plank Road/Route 120 northbound, follow signs for Route 17 southbound via Enoch Street and Hoboken Road (which becomes an on-ramp), then access either direction of Route 3.

NJDOT advises that work schedules may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org for updates and real-time travel information.
