Congressman Donald Norcross, representing New Jersey’s 1st district since 2014, has taken to social media to express his opposition to a proposed bill in Congress. In a series of tweets on July 3, 2025, he outlined his concerns about the legislation and its potential impact on American citizens.
In a tweet posted at 13:58 UTC, Norcross stated, “I’ve been at the Capitol all night and into this morning debating Trump’s big, ugly bill that will take healthcare from 17 million Americans.” He noted that House Democrats are not relenting in their efforts against the bill and highlighted Representative Hakeem Jeffries’ role in holding the floor to criticize it.
Later that day, at 15:16 UTC, Norcross described the Republican budget bill as “a direct attack on working families in South Jersey.” He detailed how the bill would affect his community by reducing food assistance for nearly 100,000 people, cutting Medicaid for more than 160,000 individuals, and affecting almost 14,000 through cuts in education support.
At 17:41 UTC, Norcross praised Rep. Jeffries for setting a record with the longest speech on the House floor while emphasizing the importance of halting what he referred to as the “Big Ugly Bill.” He commented on the absence of Republicans during this significant event by saying “Bummer the @HouseGOP wasn’t here to see it.”
Donald Norcross was born in Camden, New Jersey in 1958 and continues to reside there. Prior to his congressional tenure beginning in 2014 after succeeding Rob Andrews, he served both in the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate.
