The Senate Labor Committee has given its approval to a bipartisan bill introduced by Senator Vince Polistina. The legislation, identified as S-172, is designed to provide working parents with increased flexibility to engage in their children’s educational activities.

The proposed bill seeks to create a voluntary program that allows businesses to offer up to two days of paid leave for employees. This leave would enable parents to attend school-related events such as sporting events, recitals, or parent-teacher conferences.

Senator Polistina emphasized the significance of parental presence during crucial moments in a child’s education. “As parents, we understand the importance of being present with your child during key moments of their educational experience,” he stated. He further explained that the bill aims to establish a voluntary tax credit program that encourages employers to facilitate parental involvement.
