Senator Vince Polistina’s bipartisan legislation has moved forward in the legislative process. The Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism, and Historic Preservation Committee approved the bill yesterday.
The proposed legislation, identified as S-305, aims to require administrative law judges to join the Workers’ Compensation Judges (WCJ) section of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Under current law, retirement benefits for workers’ compensation judges are calculated differently from those for administrative law judges. This often leads to lower retirement allowances for administrative law judges.
“With this legislation, we’re taking steps toward ensuring that administrative law judges are treated fairly and consistently when it comes to their retirement benefits, aligning them with the standards set for many other judges in the State,” said Sen. Polistina. “This bill is a critical recognition of the invaluable work these judges do and the need for equity in their retirement security.”
