Senator Joe Pennacchio has reached out to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding concerns over a contract awarded to TransCore for the E-ZPass tolling system. The concern stems from the connection between TransCore’s parent company, Temasek Holdings, and China.

In his letter, Pennacchio highlighted that “Temasek Holdings is wholly owned by the government of Singapore and maintains significant business relations with China.” He pointed out that Fu Chengyu, a former board member of Temasek, had ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and China’s United Front. Despite stepping down from the board, there are worries about his influence on matters related to China and potential foreign access to sensitive data.

The E-ZPass system is responsible for collecting extensive personal information, including financial records and travel patterns. Former U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli underscored the severity of these concerns by stating that “the potential for monitoring transportation patterns and sensitive cargo poses a greater security risk than TikTok.”
