An Old Bridge, New Jersey man was arrested and charged with child pornography offenses, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced on Apr. 3.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address the exploitation of minors online and enforce federal laws protecting children from sexual abuse.

Daniel Berwick, 38, faces two counts of producing child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Rukhsanah L. Singh in Trenton federal court and was detained pending further proceedings.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Berwick allegedly persuaded two minors in August and September 2025 to send him explicit photos and videos via Snapchat by pretending to be a 17-year-old high school student using images from an adult content creator. Law enforcement began investigating after one victim reported that Berwick threatened to distribute compromising images unless his demands were met. A search of Berwick’s electronic devices reportedly uncovered at least 1,000 images depicting child sexual abuse involving prepubescent minors, including infants or toddlers.

Each production charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment and up to 30 years imprisonment with a fine up to $250,000. The possession charge carries up to 20 years imprisonment due to the involvement of prepubescent minors and also includes a potential fine up to $250,000.

U.S. Attorney Frazer credited special agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Special Agent Stefanie Roddy for leading the investigation, as well as assistance from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office led by Linda Estremera and the Old Bridge Police Department led by Chief Thomas J. Montagna.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation nationwide through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at https://www.justice.gov/psc.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Garelick is representing the government in this matter while Robert C. Scrivo serves as defense counsel for Berwick.

Authorities emphasize that all charges are accusations only; Berwick is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
