The New Jersey State Bar Association’s Casino Law Section has changed its name to the Gaming Law Section to better reflect the expanding scope of the industry, according to a June 1 announcement.

Section Chair Connor Martin said the new name acknowledges that gaming law now covers more than just traditional brick-and-mortar casinos and includes a broader and rapidly changing industry. Martin discussed reasons for the change, New Jersey’s leadership in gaming, and encouraged attorneys practicing in this area to consider joining the section.

The section’s decision comes as legal gaming continues to grow beyond casinos into online platforms and other emerging areas. The renaming is intended to ensure that members are positioned for developments across all aspects of gaming law.

New Jersey has played a significant role in shaping modern gaming regulations, serving as an early adopter of internet gambling laws and maintaining one of the largest casino industries in the United States.

Martin said that attorneys working in or interested in this evolving field should take advantage of resources offered by the section.
