Senator Declan O’Scanlon has called for legislative action following a pop-up party that resulted in a brawl at Menlo Park Mall in Edison, New Jersey. The incident involved over 300 youths and led to at least four arrests, according to Edison Mayor Sam Joshi.

“The recent incident at the Menlo Park Mall underscores the urgent need for legislative measures to address such disturbances,” stated Senator O’Scanlon. He emphasized the importance of bill A4652, which aims to deter public brawls by setting clear penalties for those who incite them. “I respect Governor Murphy’s concerns regarding the bill’s language as it’s imperative that we find a balanced approach that safeguards public safety without infringing on constitutional rights,” he added.

Senator O’Scanlon is a co-sponsor of A-4652/S-3507. This legislation seeks to establish the offense of inciting a public brawl and enhance penalties for disorderly conduct under specific circumstances. He urged prompt concurrence with Governor Murphy’s suggestions so law enforcement can effectively prevent and respond to such incidents.
