The New Jersey Senate has approved a bill sponsored by Senator Vince Polistina that would allow chiropractic students to gain practical experience before graduating. The legislation, identified as S-196/A-3099, aims to help students strengthen their clinical skills through hands-on work under the supervision of licensed chiropractors.
“Allowing chiropractic students to do real-world work under licensed chiropractors would give them invaluable experience to strengthen their clinical skills,” said Sen. Polistina. “The preceptor program permitted under this bill will help students learn directly from medical professionals, improving patient safety and supporting a smoother transition into the workforce. By becoming more comfortable with your surroundings in a clinical setting before graduation, students would be more likely to stay in New Jersey and build their careers here.”
If enacted, the bill would require the Board of Chiropractic Examiners to permit final-year chiropractic medicine students to participate in preceptorships supervised by board-approved, New Jersey-licensed chiropractors. Students participating in these programs must complete a criminal background check and apply for a limited license prior to starting their preceptorship.
