The New Jersey Senate has approved a bipartisan bill, spearheaded by Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26), to allow fusion energy projects access to the Clean Energy Fund. This legislation aims to support the development of fusion energy, which is transitioning from theory to practical application.

This revolutionary energy source has the potential to provide a zero-carbon sustainable future, and this bill will help direct critical funds for its research and development. By classifying fusion energy as a Class I renewable and unlocking investment, New Jersey can position itself as a global leader in fusion technology, helping restore America’s energy dominance once again.”
Nuclear fusion powers stars naturally and could potentially offer limitless clean energy if harnessed on Earth. The bill, S-364, proposes classifying fusion as a Class I renewable resource, thereby making such projects eligible for financial aid from New Jersey’s Clean Energy Fund.
Senator Pennacchio has been an advocate for fusion energy and has sponsored multiple legislative packages aimed at establishing New Jersey as a hub for its research and development. In 2024, the Senate Economic Growth committee passed S-366 to enable fusion technology companies to benefit from specific economic incentive programs.
