The New Jersey Senate passed a set of bipartisan bills on May 28 to authorize financing for clean water projects across the state. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Carmen Amato, Jr. and Senator Owen Henry, aims to support local governments in modernizing water systems and improving public health.
SCR-135, sponsored by Amato, would approve the fiscal year 2027 financial plan for the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank. This bank provides assistance to local governments and regional authorities seeking funding for various water-related initiatives.
S-4220, sponsored by Amato, along with its companion bill S-4221 from Henry, would allocate funds from both the infrastructure bank and federal sources to support more than 300 clean water projects throughout New Jersey.
“Ensuring clean, drinkable water is not a partisan issue, it’s a human one,” said Amato. “The NJ Infrastructure Bank remains a vital resource for communities working to modernize aging water systems, protect waterways, and deliver safe water for families across the state. This legislative package recognizes the importance of long-term environmental and public health improvements and delivers meaningful support to help achieve those goals.”
Henry said, “Clean water is one of the most important investments that we can make in public health. Communities across the Garden State depend on reliable infrastructure to reduce pollution, deliver safe drinking water, and support agriculture. This funding package will help local governments tackle their critical infrastructure needs and help improve the quality of life for their communities.”
Senator Anthony M. Bucco serves as Senate Republican Leader representing District 25; he also chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee while serving on other key committees such as Budget and Appropriations, according to the official website.
