The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced that restrictions on commercial vehicle travel and the emergency 35 mph speed limit will be lifted at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 23. This decision applies to all highways previously affected by the measures.
According to NJDOT officials, vehicles that were subject to the Commercial Vehicle Travel Restriction can now resume normal travel in both directions on major routes including I-76, I-78, I-80, I-195, I-280, I-287, I-295, I-676, and NJ Route 440 from the Outerbridge Crossing to I-287.
Additionally, the temporary order reducing speed limits to 35 miles per hour across Interstate and State highways will also end at the same time. Drivers may return to posted speed limits on all Interstate highways in New Jersey as well as U.S. and State highways, the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway.
NJDOT crews and contractors are expected to continue working overnight to clear remaining snow and ice from roadways. The department cautioned that low temperatures could lead to refreezing and winds may cause snow to blow onto cleared roads. Motorists are advised that conditions can change quickly and should use caution while driving.
“Avoid unnecessary travel and let crews continue to clear the roads,” NJDOT stated.
