The New Jersey Republican Party has criticized Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill for her stance against National Guard support amid increasing homicide rates in Washington, D.C. The party announced on X that Sherrill’s opposition is jeopardizing public safety, attributing her position to what they describe as “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

According to the New Jersey GOP’s post on X, they accused Representative Sherrill of allowing this syndrome to influence her judgment negatively, thus compromising public safety. The post underscores that this issue is particularly concerning as D.C. experiences its highest homicide rate in 20 years, with over 270 murders reported. This perspective suggests a national security risk linked to her policy stance and portrays her as prioritizing ideological disputes over pressing safety concerns.

The GOP highlighted statistics indicating that Washington, D.C., faced its most significant number of homicides in two decades, with over 270 murders. Independent fact-checks corroborate that approximately 274 homicides were recorded in D.C. in 2023, marking the highest annual total in two decades. The party argues that such violence necessitates extraordinary measures like deploying the National Guard to stabilize the area and views Sherrill’s opposition as politically irresponsible.

The message further states, “If she can’t keep D.C. safe, imagine what she’d do as governor,” urging voters to “Vote Republican Nov 4 to make New Jersey secure.” This appeal links public safety with electoral action, implying that Republican candidates provide stronger protection than their Democratic counterparts. It connects the situation in D.C. with the New Jersey gubernatorial race and positions the GOP as a dependable alternative amid rising crime.

The New Jersey GOP, formally known as the New Jersey Republican State Committee, serves as the state affiliate of the national Republican Party. It aims to promote conservative values and elect Republican candidates throughout New Jersey. The committee advocates for policy reforms focused on safety, economic growth, and individual liberty—explicitly stating its mission to create a “prosperous and safe New Jersey.” As the official party apparatus, it manages communications, candidate support, and voter engagement through platforms including X, press outreach, and grassroots events.
