The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), in collaboration with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), and South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO), has announced the allocation of $47.4 million through 43 grants as part of the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program.
According to NJDOT Commissioner Fran O’Connor, “The New Jersey Department of Transportation is committed to advancing Governor Murphy’s vision of a safe transportation system that accommodates all users. We are doing that by working with the three regional planning authorities to provide federal funding to counties and municipalities for local projects that improve safety and strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects of our transportation system.”
The program provides federal funds for community-based surface transportation projects aimed at improving pedestrian and bicycle facilities, creating safe routes to schools, preserving historic transportation structures, providing environmental mitigation, and developing trail projects that promote safety and mobility. The grants are awarded every two years.
The NJTPA region will receive funding for 29 projects totaling $29.4 million. The DVRPC region will have 10 projects funded at $14.3 million, while SJTPO will see three projects supported with $3.7 million.
Each grant application was reviewed by a selection committee made up of representatives from NJDOT Local Aid, NJDOT Bureau of Environmental Program Resources, NJTPA, DVRPC, and SJTPO. Municipalities receiving grants are responsible for implementing their respective projects.
