On Thursday, Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. participated in the Moms Demand Action Advocacy Day held at the Trenton State House. The event aimed to bring together state legislators, community partners, and gun violence survivors to discuss strategies for reducing gun violence in New Jersey and increasing awareness of the issue.

“Gun violence is an epidemic in this country, and we have the power to make a difference and save lives,” Cappelli stated. “I am proud to stand with such a wonderful organization to advocate for safer communities, stricter regulations and more common-sense gun laws.”

The John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s annual report highlights that firearms remain the leading cause of death among children in the nation for the third consecutive year. The 2024 report focuses on gun deaths among children aged 1 to 17, noting a 106% increase in gun death rates since 2013. Since 2020, firearms have been identified as the primary cause of death within this age group.
