Route 18 in East Brunswick, Middlesex County, will experience lane closures on Friday night as part of a drainage and pavement rehabilitation project by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The closures will occur between the New Jersey Turnpike and Edgeboro Road to restripe the roadway and implement a long-term left lane closure. The speed limit in this work zone will be reduced to 35 mph.
Additionally, Route 18 will be closed and detoured from West Ferris Street to Arthur Street for milling and paving. If weather conditions are unfavorable, the work will be postponed to the following night.
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 24, until 5 a.m. Saturday, October 25, lane closures will begin on Route 18 from the New Jersey Turnpike to Edgeboro Road. These closures are necessary for placing barriers and restriping lanes to 11 feet wide. At least one lane will remain open overnight. By Saturday morning, right and center lanes in both directions will reopen while the left lane remains closed for gas main work through January 2026.
From 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday, Route 18 will close between West Ferris Street and Arthur Street with detours in place for both southbound and northbound traffic.
This $86.1 million federally funded project aims to repair approximately four and a half miles of Route 18 with improvements including drainage systems, utility relocation, new sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, guiderail upgrades, and intersection enhancements. Completion is expected by late 2027.
