The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced on March 28 that the I-80 westbound Exit 60 ramp to Route 20 northbound in Paterson, Passaic County, as well as the River Drive ramp onto I-80 westbound in Elmwood Park, Bergen County, will be closed Friday night for bridge repairs.
These closures are part of a $9.3 million maintenance contract aimed at making structural steel and aluminum repairs at various locations across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren counties. The work is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday night and continue until approximately 7 a.m. Saturday morning. If work is completed ahead of schedule, the ramps may reopen earlier.
During this period, two right lanes on I-80 westbound between Exit 62/Garden State Parkway and the Passaic River will also be closed. Motorists seeking to use the Exit 60 ramp to Route 20 northbound will be directed to continue on I-80 westbound and follow detour signs via Exits 58A/B toward Madison Avenue South/Clifton before returning eastbound on I-80 to access Route 20 northbound.
Drivers using the River Drive southbound or northbound ramps onto I-80 westbound will also face detours that involve continuing along River Drive or Market Street before rejoining I-80.
Portable variable message signs are being used to provide advance notification of these traffic pattern changes. The timing of all scheduled work may change due to weather or other unforeseen factors. Motorists are encouraged by NJDOT officials to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
