The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced that the I-76 westbound Exit 1D ramp to Route 130 northbound in Gloucester City, Camden County, will be closed for approximately two months starting Monday, January 19. The closure is necessary to replace a collapsed corrugated metal drainage pipe with a ductile iron pipe. Work will also include installing sheeting to support the sound wall during construction.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on January 19, the affected ramp—which becomes the right lane on Route 130 northbound—will be closed for about 0.1 miles. One lane on Route 130 northbound will remain open, and the left exit from Route 130 northbound to I-76 westbound/Walt Whitman/Ben Franklin Bridges will stay accessible.
Initial repairs will take place during daytime hours before transitioning to continuous work around the clock to expedite completion. The closure is expected to last until late March 2026, but NJDOT stated that if work finishes earlier, the ramp may reopen sooner.
A detour route has been established: motorists traveling on I-76 westbound or Route 42 northbound who wish to access Exit 1D should instead use Exit 1B toward I-295 northbound/Trenton, located about 1.25 miles before Exit 1D. Drivers should then continue onto I-295 northbound, take Exit 28 for Route 168/Bellmawr/Runnemede/Mt Ephraim, turn left onto Route 168/Black Horse Pike northbound, and use the ramp to reach Route 130 northbound.
This project is part of a $7.1 million stormwater maintenance contract aimed at repairing and improving drainage facilities across several counties including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem.
